April 18, 2006
The April meeting was held at
Basler Turbo Conversions, LLC in Oshkosh, Wisconsin, followed by
a tour of the Basler facility with Clare Patterson, director of
operations and chief pilot for Basler Airlines.
Clare showed us the company's
current projects including a gunship for the Columbian airforce,
a newly converted aircraft for the Columbian police, and a DC-3
headed to Mali. Chapter members were able to get in the cockpit
of a BT-67 (the name for Basler's DC-3 conversion), see a DC-3
ready to be stretched, view the inside of a wing in the process
of having fuel tanks added to it, and see how the wiring for the
entire aircraft is laid out before being installed.
A big thanks to Clare for taking
the time to give us an after hours tour and answering all of our
questions!
